Fall Now Means One Thing for Job Seekers

Fall is here.  Trees are changing into warming hues, cozy sweaters  are reclaiming front of closet status, a new prime time TV line up is reacquainting us with our sofas, and best of all?  Forbes' Second Annual Best of Career Websites list is now available.

If you were as excited as I was, and I'm certain you were, to see the inaugural list published last year, then you already know that 75 sites were recognized with Linkedin claiming top honors.  What you may not be aware of, however is the rousing response received and the subsequent decision to expand 2013's list to 100.

Fall got its name for the dying leaves
 "falling" to the ground.
Forbes Staff Writers and List Creators Jacquelyn Smith and Susan Adams' goal was not to rank or award winners or losers, but to build on last year's roster by adding new and diverse sites.  The result:  A list appealing to all walks of career folk - interns, recent college grads, mid-level and seasoned business professionals, as well as small business owners, and even those in their golden years of retirement. (Cuz grandma needs a new pair of shoes too!)

And if 100 sites seems too comprehensive, the creators narrowed down the list to their top 10 (Spoiler Alert:  it's the same as last year) outlined below.
  1. Linkedin
  2. Indeed
  3. Simplyhired
  4. Idealist
  5. Glassdoor
  6. Monster
  7. Internships.com
  8. USAJobs
  9. The Wall Street Journal
  10. Dice

Though this list provides highly regarded sites with comprehensive and all inclusive information, the creators will quickly concede, and I agree, that it should not be the only tool in a professional search toolbox.  It is important to pair the ideas presented and information learned on these sites with an aggressive networking plan.

This means talking with those whose jobs you want, using job boards to identify what roles are available in companies where you  have professional contacts, and simply continuing to tell your professional story to anyone who will listen.

As monotonous as it may seem, you just may be one more conversation, "It's interesting you mention that because my professional background includes..." away from land your next professional adventure!
